Business app templates are ready-made apps for everyday processes, such as a CRM, a lead tracker, a timesheet or an approval workflow. A good one gives you working screens, forms and sign-in, plus the tables and columns behind them, so your team can add real records the same day and change the rest by asking.

This guide is for teams that run on spreadsheets and want an app without hiring a developer. It covers what a business app template includes, where to find good ones, how to use and choose one, and how to share an app you built as a template.

What is a business app template?

A business app template is a working app plus the structure of its data. You get the screens people use every day, such as lists, forms, search and a dashboard, and the tables and columns that hold the records behind them. Some templates also come with sample records, so you can see how the app behaves before you add your own.

Search for app templates or no-code app templates and you’ll find very different things under the same name. Only one of them is an app you can use the same day.

Type of template What you get What’s left for you to do
Design template Mockups of an app’s screens, made in a design tool Build the real app, its data, sign-in and hosting
Code template Screens written in code, usually with no data behind them Have a developer connect a database, add sign-in and host it
Spreadsheet template Columns and formulas in a sheet Add forms and access rules yourself, since everyone with access sees every record
Business app template A working app with its tables, sign-in and hosting Add your records and adjust it to how you work

A template saves the most time when it matches a process you already run. The closer its tables are to the columns in your spreadsheet, the less you have to change.

Where to find business app templates

Reviewed October 2026.

Many app builders keep a template gallery for their own tool. These are the sources we checked, each on its own page:

Source What you get Good to know
GoodTaco community templates (our product) A working copy of an app another GoodTaco user built, with its own database Copying uses no AI credits. We review templates before they’re listed in the gallery; templates shared only by link aren’t reviewed
GoodTaco template guides (our product) Guides for 14 workflows that list the columns to set up in a Google Sheet. GoodTaco then builds the app on that sheet These are guides, not apps to copy. Your sheet stays the source of truth
Jotform app templates 7,200+ free app templates for Jotform Apps, each with a Use Template button You can preview a template before you use it
Glide templates Templates made by Glide’s team and its community The Glide-made customer portal template we opened starts Glide with a ready-made prompt that builds a first version of the app
Knack app templates Hundreds of pre-built templates, according to Knack Filter by industry or by use case, such as portals or scheduling
Zite marketplace Copies of whole workspaces, which Zite calls “solutions”: a database plus the apps built around it Starting a solution is free, and its creator decides whether copies include sample records

Our template guides cover 14 common small-team workflows, including a CRM, a lead tracker, inventory management, project management and an approval workflow. Each guide lists the columns to set up in a Google Sheet, and GoodTaco then builds the app on that sheet. Browse all 14 Google Sheets template guides.

If your team already builds in Jotform, Glide, Knack or Zite, start with that tool’s own gallery. Templates don’t move between app builders.

How do you use a business app template?

It depends on where the template comes from. Templates from other builders work inside those builders, so you use them there. In GoodTaco, there are two ways to start.

Copy a community template

  1. Open the template link someone shared with you.
  2. Sign up or log in, then click Use this template.
  3. GoodTaco makes your own working copy of the app, with its own database. Copying uses no AI credits.

You can also find templates in the template gallery when you create an app in GoodTaco. We review those before they’re listed. A template shared only by link isn’t reviewed, so check what it does before you add real data.

Build from a template guide

Set up the columns from the guide in a Google Sheet, or check that your current sheet has them. Then connect the sheet in GoodTaco and describe the app you want. GoodTaco builds the app on that sheet, and the sheet stays the source of truth.

Either way, you change the app by describing what you need in plain language. Every change is saved in version history, so you can roll back.

Which template should you choose?

Pick the app builder first, since templates don’t move between builders. Then check these points:

  • It matches a process you already run. Choose the template closest to how your team works today, not the one with the most screens. Fewer changes mean less for people to learn.
  • Your most common tasks are quick. Add a record, find one and update its status. If any of those takes too many clicks, ask for a change or try another template.
  • Its columns fit your data. Compare the template’s tables and columns with your spreadsheet. Adding a missing column is easy. A completely different structure means rework.
  • You know where the data will live. A copied GoodTaco template gets its own database in your workspace. A template guide keeps your records in your Google Sheet. Ask the same question of any builder you try.
  • The right people sign in. Decide who uses the app and what each person should see. Private GoodTaco apps ask people to sign in before they see any data, with access limited to the users or roles you choose.
  • You trust where it came from. Check who made the template and whether anyone reviewed it. Try it with made-up records before you add real ones.
  • You know the cost per person and the limits. Check whether the builder charges for every person who signs in, and how many records each plan holds. GoodTaco pricing is per workspace, not per app user. There’s a Free plan with no credit card, and paid plans start at $9 a month.

Share your own app as a template

Sharing an app that solves a common problem lets people in your line of work start where you finished. It also shows clients your work: the link lets a client sign up and get their own working copy.

  1. Use an app on a GoodTaco database. Only apps that keep their data in a GoodTaco database can be shared as templates. Apps on a Google Sheet or an Airtable base can’t be shared yet.
  2. Open the Template tab. Workspace admins and developers can open the app’s settings, go to the Template tab and add a short title and a description.
  3. Decide on sample records. Your records are copied only if you choose to include sample records, which are off by default. If you turn them on, up to 100 of the app’s oldest records go into every copy, so leave them off if they’re real customer data.
  4. Publish and share the link. Click Publish template, then Copy link. The link works right away. You can also ask for a gallery listing. We review gallery requests, and updates to listed templates, before they go live.

Each template shows how many times it’s been used. Your other records aren’t copied, and an app with a password or access key for another service written into its code can’t be published. Copies people already made keep working when you update the template or stop sharing it. The community templates page has the details.

If you build apps for clients, share your partner link next to your templates: the GoodTaco partner program pays 30% of a referred customer’s subscription payments for 6 months, counted from their first payment. Our guide on how to start a no-code agency covers the rest.

Start from your own spreadsheet instead

If your team already runs the process in a spreadsheet, you may not need a template at all:

  • Connect a Google Sheet or an Airtable base you already use. GoodTaco builds the app on it, and it stays the source of truth: the app reads and writes the same data.
  • Upload an Excel workbook or a CSV file. GoodTaco imports the data into a built-in database, rebuilds the formulas in the app and builds the app in minutes. You can turn a spreadsheet into an app before you create an account.
  • Describe the app in plain language. GoodTaco’s AI builds it, with a built-in database for your records.

Pick the start that matches where your records live today, put a week of real work through the app, then ask for the changes your team needs.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find free business app templates?

GoodTaco community templates are free to copy and use no AI credits, and GoodTaco's Google Sheets template guides for 14 workflows are free. Jotform, Glide, Knack and Zite also have template galleries for their own app builders.

What's the difference between an app template and a spreadsheet template?

A spreadsheet template gives you columns and formulas, and everyone with access sees every record. An app template gives you a working app with forms, search and sign-in, plus the tables behind it.

Do no-code app templates include a database?

Templates from no-code app builders usually include tables; design and code templates usually don't. A GoodTaco community template copies the app's code and pages plus its database's tables and columns, so your copy is ready for your records.

Can I use a business app template with my existing Google Sheet?

You may not need one. GoodTaco can build an app on a Google Sheet or an Airtable base you already use, and it stays the source of truth.

Can I customize an app template without code?

Yes. In GoodTaco you describe the change in plain language, such as a new column or a sign-in rule, and the AI updates the app. Every change is saved in version history, so you can roll back.

Can I make money from templates I share?

Not from the template itself, since there's no way to charge for one. If you join the GoodTaco partner program and share your partner link, you earn 30% of the subscription payments of the customers you refer, for their first 6 months of payments.
