GoodTaco vs. Zite

A Zite alternative that works with the spreadsheet you already have

Zite, from the company behind the Fillout form builder, builds business apps on its own Postgres database. GoodTaco builds them on the Google Sheet or other system your team already runs, or on a built-in database when you start from scratch.

01

Why teams look for a Zite alternative

Zite is an AI builder for business software that prices per organization rather than per seat. Its documentation steers builders to start in Zite Database, its own Postgres database, and to import their data there. Teams compare alternatives when they want an app on the spreadsheet they already run, when they want to build from their own coding agent without moving to Zite’s Business plan, or when they need scheduled jobs on a smaller plan.

02

Zite and GoodTaco, compared feature by feature

Both products generate working business apps with AI and host them for you. They differ most in where your data lives, how published apps are metered, and which plans let you build with your own coding agent. Zite details come from Zite’s own pricing and help pages, checked in October 2026.

Topic GoodTaco Other product
Where your data lives In the Google Sheet, Airtable base, or other system your team already uses, or in a built-in database for the app. In Zite Database, one Postgres database per workspace that its apps and forms share, with imports from CSV, Excel, Google Sheets, or Airtable.
Live connections Google Sheets, Airtable, Jira, Smartsheet, Zendesk, and Zoho CRM. Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion, HubSpot, Snowflake, and Salesforce on the Team plan, though Zite recommends starting in Zite Database.
Published-app metering App runs: each page load and backend call, plus schedules and webhooks. Hobby includes 1,000 a month and Pro 25,000. Workflow runs: each successful backend call, including data reads. Pro includes 5,000 a month and Business 50,000.
Building with your own coding agent Claude Code or Codex over GoodTaco’s remote MCP server on every plan, without using GoodTaco credits. Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor over Zite’s MCP server without using Zite credits, on Business or higher after a seven-day trial.
Scheduled jobs Every plan. Business and higher.
Users One on Free and Hobby, ten on Pro. Unlimited builders and logged-in app users on every plan.
Paid plans (October 2026) Hobby $9 a month, Pro $49, Enterprise custom. Pro $25 a month ($20 billed annually), Business $89 ($75), Team $300 ($250), Enterprise custom.
03

Keep the spreadsheet your team already runs on

Connect the Google Sheet your team maintains and GoodTaco builds the app around it. The app reads and writes the sheet live, so people who prefer the spreadsheet keep working in it and nothing has to be imported first. Airtable, Jira, Smartsheet, Zendesk, and Zoho CRM connect as live sources too.

Starting without a spreadsheet? GoodTaco can create a built-in database for the app instead: one database of up to 100 records on Free, three of up to 1,000 records each on Hobby, and twenty of up to 25,000 records each on Pro.

04

Build from Claude Code or Codex on any plan

If you already work with a coding agent, connect Claude Code or Codex to GoodTaco’s remote MCP server. The agent edits and compiles the app on your computer with your own AI subscription, so the build doesn’t use GoodTaco credits. GoodTaco saves each build as a new version, hosts the preview, and publishes the version you choose.

This works on every GoodTaco plan, including Free. Your plan’s limits on apps and app runs still apply. Zite also lets outside agents build without its credits, but on Business or higher after a seven-day trial.

05

A first build that finishes after you close the tab

A new app’s first build runs on GoodTaco’s servers, so you can leave the page and we email you when the first version is ready. Zite’s documentation notes that an Auto mode build can stop when the browser tab closes.

06

How Zite alternative pricing compares

Zite lists Pro at $25 a month ($20 billed annually), Business at $89 ($75), and Team at $300 ($250), with AI credits, database records, and workflow runs metered on each plan. GoodTaco lists Hobby at $9 a month and Pro at $49, with AI credits for building, app runs for published apps, and record limits per database. Both price lists are as of October 2026.

Estimate the runs your app will use before comparing totals. Both products count backend calls from published apps, and GoodTaco also counts page loads. Your own previews don’t count on GoodTaco.

07

Where Zite is the better choice

Zite is the stronger fit when you want an internal app, a client portal, and intake forms running on one shared database, with linked records, lookups, rollups, formulas, and AI fields, and imports of up to 250,000 records at once. It also lists 54 integrations and built-in workflow steps for email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Twilio, and PDFs with e-signature.

Zite includes unlimited builders and logged-in app users on every plan, and its security page lists SOC 2 Type II, SAML SSO, and Enterprise audit logs. GoodTaco’s SOC 2 audit is in progress, and its Free and Hobby plans include one user. If those needs come first, Zite is likely the better fit.

Common questions

Questions about switching from Zite

Is GoodTaco a drop-in replacement for Zite?
No. Zite apps run on Zite’s own framework and database, and Zite’s export moves a workspace only into another Zite organization. Rebuild the workflow in GoodTaco on your spreadsheet or a built-in database, then test it with real records before you switch.
Can I build GoodTaco apps with my own coding agent?
Yes. Claude Code and Codex connect to GoodTaco’s remote MCP server on every plan, including Free. The agent does the AI work with your own subscription, so it doesn’t use GoodTaco credits. Your plan’s limits on apps and app runs still apply.
Do I have to move my data into GoodTaco?
No. Connect Google Sheets, Airtable, Jira, Smartsheet, Zendesk, or Zoho CRM and the app works with the data where it already lives. If you start without a source, GoodTaco can create a built-in database for the app.
